We organized the “Licancabur 2017” expedition to dive the crater lake on top of Licancabur, at an altitude of approximately 5900 m. In preparation for this expedition, we undertook several tours in the Alps during the last few years.
Our expedition tool us from La Paz in Bolivia to Lake Titicaca, Uyuni and finally to San Pedro de Atacama. We did several trekking tours at altitudes between 3800 and 5000 meters above sea level. Due to thunderstorms and heavy snow, we couldn’t reach the summit and couldn’t dive in the crater lake on Licancabur. We were lucky to get out before the region was flooded and returned home safely.
